Guwahati: Pipe Burst Reported in Geetanagar

GUWAHATI: On August 6, a distressing incident of a pipe burst occurred on Mother Teresa Road, Geetanagar, Guwahati, which was installed under the JICA project.

A resident of Geetanagar, Ranjit Talukdar expressed his frustration with the authorities, questioning their negligence in addressing the issue promptly. He highlighted the potential catastrophic consequences, bringing a previous incident in Kharguli as an alarming example.

Sohail Ali Ahmed, another resident of Geetanagar, has asserted that the incident took place during the early hours and was apparently caused due to a leakage.

"Our locality is already experiencing irregular and severe water shortages, and now, to add to the problem, there are pipe burst reported," he further said.

Upon contacting the Guwahati Jal Board, an official stated that the incident was attributed to a house service connection leakage, and they are actively working to rectify the problem.

However, this incident is just one in a series of pipe burst cases recorded in the months of May, June, and July.

Officials have pointed out that the majority of these incidents were caused by faulty and rusty old pipes, indicating the urgent need for replacements.

It must also be noted that Geetanagar previously experienced a pipe burst in the month of May, where a JICA-installed water pipe burst happened due to an air blockage.
