GUWAHATI: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) destroyed a substantial stash of ganja and illegally imported cigarettes at a steel mill in Sawkuchi on October 26.
The total weight of the ganja seized and destroyed was approximately 9077.24 kg which has been ascertained to be worth ₹14.44 crore along with 1.5 crore cigarettes of foreign origin worth ₹29.66 crore.
The drive was carried out in the presence of the chairman of CBIC, Sanjay Kumar Agarwala.
In the previous year, the CBIC destroyed a total of 7472.386 kg of Ganja worth ₹7.72 crore and 1.78 crores of cigarettes stocks of foreign origin worth ₹30.23 crore, along with other custom seized goods like black pepper, dry dates and anti mosquito coil.
Chairman of CBIC Sanjay Kumar Agarwala while talking to the media said, “This is a drive not only towards the cleanliness of different premises but also a step towards a drug-free India. We have conducted this drive at various institutions along with public facilities and have destroyed huge stashes of illicit items and drugs”
