GUWAHATI: Over 2400 students from various academic backgrounds have actively exercised their democratic rights, casting their votes to determine the future leadership of Cotton University today. In this robust democratic endeavour, students have engaged in the selection of their peers who will serve as the representatives for the upcoming academic year.
With the electoral battle intensifying, several hostels have formed alliances and presented candidates for various positions. Notably, the RKB hostel, in alliance with the NBD hostel, has put forth a formidable line-up with a total of nine candidates competing for various positions in the Cotton University elections.
Another significant alliance has been formed between SNBC hostel, partnered with Asom Chatra Parishad, and SRB hostel, affiliated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Together, they have united 17 students to contest in this year's elections at Cotton University.
Collaboration appears to be a dominant theme in this electoral contest. The hostels SKL, DKR, and MNDP have joined forces, collectively nominating 12 candidates.
Candidates are in the running for the positions of President, Vice President, and General Secretary. The contenders for the post of President include Abhijit Das from PG 3rd Semester, Bineet Bishal Borthakur from PG 1st Semester, and Himanshu Kumar Das from PG 1st Semester.
For the role of Vice President, the candidates include Akhshayata Das from PG 3rd Semester, Meghna Kalita from PG 3rd Semester, and Violina Borboruah from UG 5th Semester.
The position of General Secretary sees Gunjan Deka from UG 5th Semester, Javed Akhtar from PG 1st Semester, and Rituraj Nath from PG 1st Semester as candidates.
