Guwahati: No camps for Ambubachi Mela will be set up at Sonaram field this year

GUWAHATI: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamrup (M), Virendra Mittal on Tuesday addressed to the media the precautionary measures taken for all the devotees of Kamakhya Temple in lieu of Ambubachi Mela.

Speaking to the media personals, Mittal said that unlike the previous years, this year there will be no camps at Sonaram field; instead the camps will be set up in the old jail campus at Fancy Bazar.

Kamakhya Railway station, Maligaon, Pandu, Machkhowa , Naharbari field near Kamakhya temple, Boripara school field, are the other places where in the camps will be setup for the devotees from all over the country.

Commissioner of Police, Hiren Nath, who was also present during the press meet, said that the city police have chalked out detailed security plan for Ambubachi Mela.

CRPF, commandos, Assam Police Battalion personnel and police personnel in civil dress will be deployed and around 2000 security personnel will also be deployed to help any unforeseen events.

As the current flood situation in Assam is at the nerve of breakout, the commissioner has requested all pilgrims to refrain from taking bath in Brahmaputra.
