GUWAHATI: Guwahati will soon get another big park in the Chandmari area. The proposed park will be similar to the existing Shraddhanjali Kanan park located near Assam Zoo. Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, February 1, announced that the Government is planning to construct the park on the Maniram Dewan Road, near the All India Radio Campus.

The park will be constructed in about 20 bighas of land where the offices of the Irrigation Department and the Flood Control Department are currently situated.

CM Sarma said, "We are constructing spaces for both the departments within the Assam Secretariat. Once completed, the offices will be shifted and the present buildings at Chandmari will be demolished by next year."

The land will be converted into a park for society.

He further said that Guwahati currently has 42 parks for its residents, and the upcoming park will add to the aesthetic of the city.

Moreover, as part of the Brahmaputra Riverfront beautification project, all police quarters adjacent to the old DC Bungalow at Panbazar will be renovated and opened for the public.

"The residents of the quarters have already been moved, and renovation work will be started in a day or two," CM Sarma said.
