GUWAHATI: The Maligaon foot over-bridge will be demolished within a month, as per sources at the Public Works Department (Roads). This was also confirmed by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
As per sources, the foot over-bridge has to be taken down to facilitate the construction of the Kamakhya-Maligaon flyover.
"It is a known fact that the bridge is coming on the way of the new flyover. We are taking it down within a month," a source said.
Reportedly, a meeting was held today, September 2, amongst officials of PWD (Public Works Department) and GMDA departments in this regard.
Notably, the Maligaon foot over-bridge was renovated in 2018. Strengthening of the structure was done by an Assam-based company and two lifts were added at both ends by a Mumbai-based firm.
With the foot over-bridge to be demolished, PWD reportedly has to pay a certain amount of money to both the firms as well as GMDA. The bridge will be demolished as soon as the decision on payments is made, the source added.
