Lockdown in Guwahati Extended by a Week Till July 19

GUWAHATI: In wake of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city, lockdown has been extended in Guwahati.

The lockdown extension order states that "this order shall remain in force with effect from 6 PM of July 12, 2020 and shall remain in force up till 7 PM of July 19."

A lockdown extension proposal was unanimously passed in the meeting which was attended by senior government officials and representatives of many wards was held to take stock of the pandemic-induced situation and decide whether or not the lockdown should be extended. Various Nagrik Committees, Assam Police and Kamrup Metro District Administration also attended the same.

The Principal Secretary of Assam’s Health Department Samir Sinha in a NHM meeting held at GMCH said, "If the lockdown is not imposed, the gains made in the past two weeks will go waste."

Guwahati has been under complete lockdown since June 29 for two weeks. 

The total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Assam as on July 11 stands at 15,536. Of these, 9,848 persons have been cured and discharged. Further, 5,650 cases are currently active. 35 persons have so far passed away due to the dreaded virus.
