GUWAHATI: An order issued by the Kamrup Metropolitan District administration on 21st September stated that the Kamakhya Shakti Peeth would be allowed to reopen as early as 24th September.

The order stated, "Decision has been taken to open the Kamakhya Temple for the devotees w.e.f. 24th September or after the completion of the arrangements decided whichever comes first."

Although it has been reported that the Shakti Peeth will be reopening on 24th September, Kavindra Sarma, Doloi of the Temple informed G Plus that the exact date of reopening has not yet been decided.

"We have discussed with the administration and the order mentioned the date of 24th September or after completion of arrangements. The guidelines have also been provided. But the exact date of reopening is yet to be ascertained," he said.

"We are making proper arrangements and once everything is done we will notify about the exact opening date," he added.

The temple has remained closed ever since the nationwide lockdown was announced in March last.

This year, the Kamakhya Temple Management Committee also cancelled the Ambubachi Mela amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
