Guwahati: Kamakhya Temple To Become Plastic-Free Zone

 

GUWAHATI: The Kamakhya Temple is set to become a plastic-free zone, as discussed in a series of important meetings chaired by Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal on July 16.

Singhal highlighted the urgent need to make Kamakhya a plastic-free zone.

The discussions included the installation of street lights along the national highway from Jalukbari to Khanapara and the development of parks under urban infrastructure funds.

Among various other agendas, the key topic discussed was the report from a one-man committee on improving municipal administration and the review of draft rules for the Municipal Amendment Act, 2024.

The meeting also reviewed the status of solid waste management and water management under the Swachh Bharat Mission, focusing on how the mission is working within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Singhal convened with various branches of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, such as the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and Guwahati Utility's Company Limited (GUCL), along with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
