GUWAHATI: Infighting among the hostellers of Cotton University occurred on Wednesday night, January 5, hours after the student elections results were declared. The fight was majorly between the two hostels - MNDP and SNBC in the Panbazar area of Guwahati.
As per sources, the majority of the hostellers were found to be in an inebriated state and were using sticks to beat each other up.
Additional police forces had to be called to control the situation. A few of the injured hostellers were sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after the fight.
Meanwhile, a few of the hostellers reached out to G Plus claiming that police were too rough on the students. G Plus spoke to a senior official of the Panbazar Police Station (PS) who stated that the students were totally out of order.
"Since the morning we had allocated a police force to manage the elections. Everything went well and we even gave them a bit of leeway to celebrate till 10.30 PM. But they started to fight among themselves and we tried to stop them. The Police eventually had to lathi-charge to stop the fight because they were not listening to us," the official added.
Moreover, a few of the hostellers had even used bricks and rocks during the fight, police sources said.
