Guwahati: GMC Publishes Final Ward Delimitation Order With 60 Wards, Know Your Ward

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on January 25, published the final ward delimitation order taking the city’s total municipal wards from the existing 31 to 60.

The final list has been published with modifications after hearing public claims and objections in connection with the draft list of delimited wards published on January 6, 2022.  

The notification read, "In exercise of the power conferred under sub-section 1(a) and (5) of Section 43 of Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969 read with Govt. of Assam, Department of Housing & Urban Affairs letter No.GDD.235/2019/Pt-V/191, dated 05.01.2022, Shri Devasish Sharma, ACS, Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation here by determine the extent of each 60 (sixty) wards into which the city shall be divided as per the schedule of boundary and map annexed".

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation Councillor elections have been pending since 2018 as the Government had been mulling the aforementioned delimitation. In November 2021, the Government proposed to hold the election by the end of April 2022. However, the State Cabinet has now decided to conduct all urban local body polls across Assam before March 10.

The GMC from now on will have 60 numbers of  wards in place of 31.
