GUWAHATI: The police have apprehended a duo who were impersonating as officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from a hotel in Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati.

One Shakeel Khan from West Bengal’s Hoogli Distict and Hasan Ali from Dhubri have been apprehended by the police.
As per sources, the duo called a lady over a case lodge against her claiming themselves to be from the CBI on 16th January last. The woman was asked to visit the hotel in Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati where she was interrogated by them. The woman was further asked to pay a hefty sum of Rs 3 lakhs on 23rd January.
She was told by the impersonators about a certain recording of hers which they had in possession. However, they couldn't provide any evidence to the lady.
On becoming suspicious, she later contacted the Paltan Bazar Police station to intervene in the matter. G Plus spoke to Officer in Charge (OC), Prakash Tiwari, who confirmed the development. The police are further investigating the matter.
