GUWAHATI: The Editor-in-Chief of Pratibimba Live, a news portal, Taufiquddin Ahmad and News Editor Iqbal have been arrested. They would be taken into custody to investigate the conspiracy behind airing a piece of news related to a senior Minister from the Assam Cabinet.
The matter is in reference to a salacious news article about an Honourable Minister of Government of Assam and attempts to malign familial bond. As such Dispur Police Station Case no 612/2021 under Section 509 IPC r/w sec 14/21 POCSO Act has been registered.
On this, the Dispur Police Station (PS) apprehended them on Tuesday night. This was informed to G Plus by a senior official from Dispur PS.
GP Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law & Order has further advised the media not to air such news under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
"People are strongly advised not to give air to such attempts since posting such pictures with malicious intention attracts provisions of POCSO Act. Assam Police would take strong action against all such attempts under stringent provisions of POCSO Act.
Action shall be taken against all persons irrespective of their place of residence who use any of the social media platforms to maliciously use such platforms for furthering this conspiracy," the ADGP tweeted.
Meanwhile, the news agency has issued a correction video on the matter.
