GUWAHATI: The District Transport Office (DTO) of Kamrup Metro (M) conducted a vigorous enforcement drive against bikers and pillion riders without helmets and collected a total of Rs 46,000 in fines on Wednesday, December 1.
The Kamrup DTO has made the wearing of helmets mandatory for pillion riders.
On Wednesday, the District Administration, DTO (Enforcement), and Assam Police jointly conducted the drive at the Ganeshguri, Chandmari, and other areas of Guwahati.
District Transport Officer (Enforcement) Himanshu Das told G Plus that a total of 277 cases have been registered and Rs 46,000 has been collected on the spot in penalties.
"The fine has been collected digitally as card payments or challans has been issued to those who have not paid. We have not collected any cash," DTO (Licensing) Gautam Das said.
The Enforcement Department will continue with the drive against traffic violators in Guwahati to ensure strict implementation of the rule.
For those vehicles where bikers and pillion riders wore helmets, Guwahati Police offered roses as a mark of praise.
