Guwahati: Dist Admin Advises to Postpone Wedding Functions

GUWAHATI: As the month of April-May mark the time when many weddings take place in Assam, however, the district authorities of Kamrup (Metro) have advised those who were planning to get married now, to shift the wedding date to a later time. 

Talking to G Plus, Kamrup (Metro) DC Biswajit Pegu said, "If there will be a wedding then there will definitely be a gathering. I would advise if someone is planning to get married to defer it to a later date."

It is to be mentioned that as per the revised guidelines issued by the ministry of home affairs “All social/ political/ sports/ entertainment/ academic/ cultural/ religious functions/ other gatherings” have been prohibited till May 3.   

The country-wide lockdown has been extended till May 3 to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The government has also reiterated on the importance of social distancing. 

A Guwahati resident Navajit Sarma told G Plus, “I was planning to get married on May 8. But now looking at the present scenario, things looks uncertain and we might have to shift the date and hold a function with a maximum of 10 people.”  

On the other hand, Despite the central government’s advisory prohibiting any social, religious, cultural functions/gatherings till May 3, Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, got married to Revathi- the grandniece of former Congress Minister for Housing M Krishnappa on Friday. 

As per reports, around 60 people attended the wedding.
