GUWAHATI: The city of Guwahati is grappling with a severe air quality crisis, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) currently soaring to 166 on Thursday morning, January 23, firmly placing it in the "Unhealthy" category.

This alarming figure signifies a serious deterioration in air quality, exceeding the average for the state of Assam by over 1.08 times.
The high levels of PM2.5 are contributing to serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. According to AQI, Guwahati currently ranks 250th among the most polluted cities globally.
