Guwahati: Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre Opens To Public From Tuesday

GUWAHATI: The newly renovated Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre (MBRHC) or the Old DC Bungalow at Panbazar in Guwahati will be opened to the public from Tuesday, October 12. The visiting hours are from 11 am to 5 pm till Sunday, October 17.

From October 19, the MBRHC will remain open from Tuesday to Sunday every week, from 10 am to 10 pm. However, the last entry for visitors will close at 8 pm every day. The center will remain closed every Monday for maintenance purposes.
The entire premises of the MBRHC is strictly pedestrian and closed to any vehicular traffic, informed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).  

The price of an entry ticket is fixed at Rs 100  per person. Entry is free for those below the age of 12 years, above the age of 75 years, and persons with disabilities on producing their identity cards.

The tickets will have to be retained by visitors during the entire course of their visit and will be punched by the security personnel at the exit. 

Entry is permitted only through the security cabin at the main gate, and exit through both gates.

Further, provisions have been made for a free electric cart ferry service for the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities. 

Owing to the COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, only 200 people will be allowed into the MBRHC every day, and only 50 people inside at any given point in time. 

No outside food, beverages, cigarettes, alcohol, paan, gutka, chewing gums, and tobacco will be allowed on any person entering the premises of MBRHC. If any of the mentioned is found, it will be confiscated immediately. And if any person is found consuming any of the above mentioned, it will attract an instant fine of Rs 3,000.

Plucking of flowers or plants, littering, or any damage whatsoever to the property is strictly prohibited, and disobedience will attract an instant fine of Rs 3,000.

No one is allowed to walk on the Heritage Alpana painted on the surface of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) water tank to prevent accidents, since the tank is very old and the roof might collapse with overweight. 

The MBRHC premises is equipped will all public amenities and conveniences, including a drinking water dispenser and separate toilets for men, women, and the disabled. 

For any assistance, the visitors are requested to approach the trained staff and security personnel for their directions. All visitors and patrons are requested not to spend beyond a maximum of four hours in the premises, urged GMDA.
