GUWAHATI: Guwahati, which is a flood-prone city during summers, has bagged the lowest spot in the recently released ‘Municipal Performance Index’ (MPI) list.

The list released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs shows Indore with the maximum points for MPI. The Municipal Performance Index provides an assessment of the performance of municipalities and a granular understanding of its functionalities, development and capabilities.

Meanwhile, the top spot in the Centre's "Municipal Performance Index" list has been bagged by New Delhi Municipal Corporation in the 'less than a million population' category. Civic bodies of Tirupati, Tiruppur, Bilaspur, Udaipur, Karnal, Salem, Gandhinagar, Jhansi and Tirunelveli were listed among the 60 civic bodies.

Guwahati is also at the bottom of the list of cities in terms of ‘Ease of Living Index 2020’,a tool to evaluate and analyse the quality of life, economic-ability, sustainability and resilience of a city. The rankings are a clear indicator that Guwahati lags behind most other cities of India in terms of development.
