GUWAHATI: A newspaper advertisement where a tender linked to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport issued by Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited sparked social media outrage in Assam on Wednesday, August 18.

The matter gained mileage after a picture of the newspaper advertisement did the rounds on various social media platforms. The advertisement invited “parties to participate in the e-tendering process for provisions of various non-aeronautical services at the airport”.

Reacting to this, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) slammed the State government on the issue. "We have seen that at the LGBI airport, the signboard states that it is Adani International Airport and today an advertisement appeared in newspapers in the name of Adani International Airport. We had raised the issue of the change of name of LGBI Airport to Adani International Airport which was denied by Assam Minister Sri Piyush Hazarika”, Congress MP Ripun Bora said in a statement shared with G Plus.

“But today an advertisement appeared in the newspapers in the name of Adani Guwahati International Airport. So the Government must make its stand clear whether there is a clause in the agreement with Adani Group of companies to keep the name of the Airport as Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport? Then why has the advertisement appeared in the name of Adani Guwahati International Airport?”, the statement added.

The Assam government has since issued a clarification on the matter. Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday clarified that the name of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport won’t be changed.

Addressing media persons in Guwahati, CM Sarma said, “The name of LGBI Airport will not be changed till I serve as the Chief Minister and till Narendra Modi serves as the Prime Minister.”
