GUWAHATI: Assam Director General Of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurated a Cyber Forensic Lab-cum-Training Centre on Monday, June 28. The event was held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Ulubari, Guwahati.
The laboratory is part of the Cybercrime Prevention Against Women and Children Scheme (CCPWC), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of India. It has been set up at the cost of Rs.3,92,99,900, according to an official statement.
In addition, DGP Assam also launched a Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System in the same function.
The Cyber Forensic Lab-cum-Training Centre is equipped with cyber forensic tools, disk forensics, GPS forensics, malware analyzer, mobile forensic, and various other applications and tools for extraction, imaging, data recovery, password recovery, and analysis of digital devices.
Further, the lab also has a training facility with 25 workstations to impart training to Assam police personnel on cybercrime investigation.
The Assam DGP also distributed cyber-crime 'First Responder Kits' to 245 police stations in Assam with high reporting of cyber-crime cases. These portable kits use the latest technology in dealing with cyber-crimes with each kit costing Rs.13,53,696.
