GUWAHATI: Amid the Assam Shutdown, protestors  opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) clashed with the police in Guwahati’s Downtown area.

The incident took place after the police tried to disperse the crowd as the timeline for the 11-hour bandh was over at 4 pm.

As per reports, the police intervened after the protestors continued demonstrating till 4:30 PM, hindering the traffic.

The police later resorted to firing tear gas to disperse the crowd after some of the protestors pelted stones at the police.

Meanwhile, no cases of injuries have been reported so far.

The state-wide bandh was intensified after the Lok Sabha passed the bill in the wee hours of Dec 10. Various student organisations including All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged massive protests across the state during the 11-hour-shutdown.

The turmoil in the state comes ahead of the India-Japan Summit which is scheduled to take place from December 15th to 17th.
