Guwahati Airport Declared 'Single-Use Plastic Free'

GUWAHATI: Airports Authority of India (AAI) taking a pioneering initiative has decided to make its airports plastic free by banning the use of single-use plastic items at its airports across the country.

At North Eastern Region, all major airports LGBI Airport-Guwahati, MBB Airport- Agartala, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Silchar, Shillong, Dimapur, Jorhat Airports are declared single-use plastic free.  

With Airports Authority of India's commitment to reduce carbon emissions and increase use of environment friendly measures at all its establishments, a total of 85 airports across India single –use plastic free zones. 

These steps include banning of single-use plastic items like straws, plastic cutleries, plastic plates and switching over to other packaging alternatives and replacements. 

AAI has also enhanced its waste management systems and is promoting the use of eco-friendly sustainable alternatives progressively like use of bio-degradable garbage bags in the garbage bins and installation of plastic bottle crushing machine at these airports.
