GUWAHATI: At a grand feast, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers savoured more than three quintals of goat meat during the filing of nominations for the party’s candidate in Tezpur for the Rangapara Legislative Assembly seat.
The celebratory mood in the saffron camp is indicative of its confidence of the poll victory. It is also a pointer towards the fact that the price rise of essential commodities like onion which has touched Rs. 70 per kilo in the state, have not cut any ice with the state BJP leaders and workers.
The grand feast in the saffron brigade on the nomination filing day for the by election is a testimony to the fact that the ruling dispensation won’t let the price rise issue hijack its poll plank.
Party workers claimed that more than three quintals of goat meat was cooked for the feast.
On the other hand, BJP’s principal opposition Congress, is banking heavily on the price rise issue to revive its falling electoral fortunes in the state.
The feast was organized by the party in Rangapara in the run up to the nominations filing for the by polls in four seats of the state, voting for which will take place on October 21.
Party candidate Rajen Barthakur filed his nominations on Monday for the 74-Rangapara Legislative Assembly, after which thousands of party workers were treated to delicious local mutton curry and rice.
A party worker from Tezpur said the feast was organized to start the election campaign on a celebratory note.
The mood in the saffron camp appears to be already upbeat before the campaign has even begun for the four assembly seats.
