GPlus Impact: Guwahati’s Panbazar Flyover Sidewalk Cleaned Overnight By GMC

GUWAHATI: The Panbazar flyover’s sidewalk was cleaned overnight on November 4 by Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) after GPlus did a report on its pathetic condition hours earlier.

The sidewalk had been littered with garbage, human faeces, causing issues for locals and passersby. They at times took to complaining about it which though, mostly fell on deaf ears. Many complained about not being able to use the sidewalk due to the terrible condition. Others also stated that many miscreants relieved themselves there, causing the area’s air to be filled with unbearable stench.

GPlus published a report on its social handles on Monday, showcasing the terrible conditions taxpayers were being made to live through. When GPlus contacted GMC authorities for the report, an official stated that this did not fall under the ambit of GMC, but Public Works Department (PWD).

However, speaking to GPlus, a PWD official stated, "We are responsible for cleaning the grass and plants that have outgrown. Rest, GMC is accountable for any other filth."

It is not known who finally decided the jurisdictional question, but the GMC took to X on November 5 to claim that its personnel had worked overnight to finally make the place human-friendly and also held out hope for the future.

Replying to GPlus' post on X, GMC put out, “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have addressed the issue, and the Panbazar flyover area has now been cleaned. Regular monitoring will also be conducted to maintain cleanliness and safety in the area. Please let us know if you have further concerns, and thank you for helping us keep Guwahati safe and clean.”
