No clean drinking water, filthy washrooms, dirty patient cabins and garbage-strewn premises—such is the scenario of the Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital which presently functions in a pitiable condition.
The patients have alleged that they have asked the hospital authorities to clean the hospital premises but to no avail.
One patient who has been admitted in the hospital informed G Plus that the condition of the washrooms is the worst and they are not able to relieve themselves properly in the absence of running water.
“The patients, who need extra care and attention, are subjected to such pathetic conditions in the hospital while the authorities keep turning a blind eye. We get running water in the bathrooms for a day, it again stops for two or three days at a stretch,” she said.
Further, the female toilets are not in a usable state and the cubicles are strewn with garbage in the absence of regular cleaning. Situated in Jalukbari, the hospital’s filth makes patients further prone to infections.
Another patient, Manorama Devi from Maligaon, told G Plus that she was admitted in the hospital after suffering from acute leg pain. “Given the filth and garbage surrounding us all round, some patients are now suffering from stomach infections,” she said.
Devi further added that there has been no provision of running water in the toilets for the past two days, thus making them even more unhygienic.
“We are facing a lot of difficulties while using the stinking washrooms. Also, the nurses and the cleanliness in-charge of the hospital do not take responsibility even after we have complained to them a number of times,” she added.
In the absence of any cleaning staff, patients in this hospital are forced to clean the floor of their cabin every day themselves.
Additionally, there are a few patients who have been admitted in the hospital for close to 30 days. They have alleged that they did not have access to clean drinking water from a water purifier.
On top of these inconveniences, the patients also informed that they are not provided with any mosquito nets, which makes them susceptible to further diseases. Angry patients complained that the ministers make tall claims during the elections to garner votes and even distribute mosquito nets in villages. But they should visit the hospital to become aware of the reality.
Adding to their woes is the food which is served to the patients which they claim is inedible. Additionally, the patients informed that they were disappointed by the apathetic attitude of the nurses as they are not receptive to any of their problems.
On the other hand, the hospital authorities informed that after receiving several complaints, they have now undertaken cleanliness of the hospital premises.
