GMCH’s botched diagnosis exposed

A latest case of a botched diagnosis has once again raised questions over the efficiency of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in rendering service to the society. Afnur Ali, who suffered serious head injuries on 11th August during the infamous Cotton ruckus underwent a botched diagnosis at the GMCH. It may be mentioned, that Ali was allowed to leave the hospital after GMCH authorities diagnosed him with minor injuries. The GMCH authorities further also handed over reports to investigating police officials that Ali had suffered minor injuries. Contrary to this, the health condition of Ali deteriorated following which he was admitted to the Dispur Hospital. Subsequently, he underwent a surgery during which a foreign body (piece of bamboo) that penetrated the back of his head was removed.  Thus the removal of the foreign body from Ali’s body has once again exposed the slackness of the GMCH authorities in addressing the patients.   Question arises under what circumstances the GMCH authorities had diagnosed Ali to have suffered minor injuries and issue a same report to the investigating police officials.   It may be mentioned that a section of MNDP hospital boarders had created ruckus around the Guwahati Railway Station on August 11 night assaulting police personnel and news persons besides vandalizing vehicles and public properties. However, the culprits behind the infamous act are yet to be penalized.   (Image courtesy - DY365)
