GMC Slaps Rs 5000 Fine on Meat Shops, 11.5 Kg Mutton Seized in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Veterinary Branch and Enforcement Branch, under guidance and supervision of Commissioner Devajoyoti Hazarika inspected meat shops in Guwahati.

The inspection was carried out at shops located at Hengrabari Road, Borbari Bazar and Ganeshguri Bazar. During the inspection it was found that meat sellers were not selling slaughtered meats from the authorized slaughterhouse. 

There were other anomalies such as non-maintenance of hygiene, no trade licence etc.

In the process two mutton shops on the Hengrabari Road were slapped with a penalty of Rs. 1000, two pork shops and 2 poultry shops on the Hengrabari Road near LP School were slapped with Rs. 2000, 2 mutton shops at Barbari Bazar were penalized Rs. 1000 and 3.9 kgs of mutton was seized.

Further at the Ganeshguri Bazar, one poultry van and 4 mutton shops were slapped with Rs. 1000 and 7.6 kgs of mutton was seized. One mutton shop was also sealed.
