“We request all commercial establishments to follow all Swacchata norms to avoid being penalised,” the body posted on X related to the incident dated Monday, March 24.

GMC further reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness in the city under its ongoing campaign, "Our Guwahati, Our Responsibility," as the corporation has been actively taking measures against sanitation violations throughout the year.

Earlier, on March 10, action was already taken against two separate instances of littering. A resident of Aurobindo Path was fined ₹5,000 for blocking a drain, while a food cart in MS Road, Fancy Bazar, was removed after repeated warnings for failing to maintain hygiene and proper dustbins.

The municipal body also stated that despite multiple notices, the vendor continued to litter the area, leading to the removal of the cart.

The corporation has continued to monitor and penalise violators as part of its initiative to promote a cleaner and healthier Guwahati.
