In a press meet on Friday, April 11, GMC officials said that the survey has been completed in 27 municipal wards, while work in the remaining areas is underway. The entire process is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Installation of house number plates will begin this month. GMC has requested residents to cooperate with the survey teams during the process.
Aditionally, GMC has announced a property tax rebate of up to 10% for households that maintain urban forests and clean front areas (swachha poduli). Entries for this initiative will be invited through a dedicated online portal. After verification by GMC officials, eligible households will receive the rebate in the next financial year.
The corporation has also announced that rainwater harvesting systems will be installed free of cost at government schools and public institutions that are willing to adopt them. GMC has further informed that institutions looking to recharge dry borewells or tubewells can approach the civic body for technical assistance.
GMC is also working on simplifying the trade license process. Currently, businesses are required to obtain multiple licenses for different categories of goods or services within the same establishment. Categories are also based on income levels, which the GMC says has led to inaccuracies and confusion.
To address these issues, GMC is in talks with stakeholders to introduce a single license system for similar businesses under broad categories and to remove outdated trade types.
