GUWAHATI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal for admission of girls in Sainik School with effect from academic session 2021-22.
"The decision is in line with the objective of the government towards greater inclusiveness, gender equality, enabling greater participation of women in Armed Forces and strengthening the motto of ''Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,'' propagated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said a defence ministry statement.
Earlier, a pilot project was undertaken by the Defence Ministry two years ago for admitting female students in Sainik School Chhingchhip in Mizoram.
It is to be mentioned that Assam too, holds a prestigious school- Sainik School in Goalpara- which was established on 12 November, 1964, under the Sainik Schools Society, New Delhi under the Ministry of Defence.
