Gauhati High Court Denies Bail to Bajali Corruption Case Accused

 

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail applications of all the individuals arrested in connection with the Bajali corruption case.

The accused persons who sought bail but had their applications denied include former Bajali SP Siddhartha Buragohain, former Bajali ASP Gayatri Sonowal, her husband Subhas Chander, DSP Puskal Gogoi, Homeguard Deepjyoti Kalita, and informer Iswar Chand Baruah.

The case stems from allegations of bribery that led to the detention of seven individuals, including five police officers of the Bajali Police and two drivers, by the CID on September 1.

The police officers detained were Puskal Gogoi, Dy SP (HQ), Bajali; SI Anup Jyoti Patiri, O/C, Patacharkuchi PS; SI (P) Debajit Giri, i/c Bhawanipur OP under Patacharkuchi PS; ASI Sasanka Das of Patacharkuchi PS; and ABC Injamamul Hassan, PSO of Smti Gayatri Sonowal, the then Addl SP (HQ), Bajali.

The drivers involved in the alleged unlawful activities were Deepjoy Roy and Nabir Ahmed.

Additionally, a few days later, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court remanded six of the accused to judicial custody.

Those sent to judicial custody included Home Guard drivers Deepjoy Kalita and Nabir Ahmed, middlemen Sahidul Islam and Kishore Kumar Baruah, former Bajali ASP Gayatri Sonowal, and her husband Bobby Singh.
