Garam Masala, a common Indian spice, has been announced as the most popular and the best rated spice blend in the world, as per Taste Atlas rankings.
Garam Masala stood on the first position in Spice Blends and Seasoning category with a rating of 4.6 out of five stars on the TasteAtlas website.
The spice reportedly originated in North India and has been described on the TasteAtlas website as “an intensely aromatic blend of ground spices such as cinnamon, cumin, cardamom, cloves, and peppercorns.”

The second position of the list was taken by Lebanon’s Baharat spice, with China’s Five-spice powder (Wu xiang fen) on the third position, Japan’s Shichimi Togarashi on fourth and Old Bay Seasoning from the USA on the fifth position.
Besides Garam Masala, India’s Chaat Masala attained the 8th spot on the list, along with Bafat - “a traditional Mangalorean blend of ground spices such as red chilis, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, peppercorns, mustard seeds, and turmeric” - on 20th position.
