Four Assam Youth Die in a Coal Mine Accident in Longleng, Nagaland

GUWAHATI: Reports have come of the death of four persons from Assam who have died inside a coal mine in Longleng, Nagaland. The incident occurred at an abandoned coal mine on Saturday-Sunday near the Assam-Nagaland border.

According to news reports from Nagaland, the coal mine was closed at the time and the victims had reportedly gone there to retrieve personal belongings. The victims hailed from Upper Assam were identified as Jitan Tanti (40), Krishna Gogoi (32), Tutu Deka (28) and Shushan Phukon (37).

According to Longleng police, the mine was recently shut down after Nagaland put a ban on illegal coal mining. The police has negated any foul play and it is suspected that the victims got exposed to toxic fumes while inside the mine.
