Four Arrested For Armed Robbery At Guwahati’s Gorchuk Dump-Yard

GUWAHATI: The Gorchuk police have arrested four individuals involved in an armed robbery that took place on September 25 at a dump-yard in Deochotal, Pamohi. The incident occurred around 11:20 PM when three armed men forcibly entered the premises and robbed a trunk containing cash, important documents, and mobile phone.

The victim, Momir Miya, reported being assaulted along with his family before fleeing the scene in a vehicle towards Lalung Gaon. 

Following the incident, police quickly responded and discovered a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition at the scene, believed to belong to one of the suspects. A case has been registered at Gorchuk Police Station under relevant sections of the law.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had previously visited the dump-yard to collect money under the guise of “Lachit Sena, Assam.” 

The arrested suspects are: Dulal Dutta (Chandan), 35, a member of Lachit Sena from Changsari; Prasanta Kalita, 36, from Dharamtul Barghat, Morigaon, identifying himself as a senior reporter for News18 Asom; Kartik Kalita, 30, a former Aam Aadmi Party candidate; Monuranjan Boruah, 28, Secretary of Lachit Sena.

Dulal Dutta was apprehended on September 27 in Changsari, where police recovered a receipt book related to Lachit Sena. During interrogation, Dutta confessed to the robbery and named his accomplices. Following this, Kartik Kalita was arrested near his shop in Lalmati, while Prasanta Kalita was taken into custody near the Railway Headquarters in Maligaon, where he was driving a vehicle linked to the crime. Boruah was arrested at his residence, and the stolen trunk was recovered from a roadside near Lalung Gaon.

Seized Items:

-    One pistol magazine with five 7.65 mm ammunition found at the crime scene.
-    A scooter belonging to Dulal Dutta which was used by him for collection of donations for Lachit Sena, Assam.
-    Money receipt books of Lachit Sena Thalgiri, Assam recovered from the accused Dulal Dutta
-    Two factory-made pistols 
-    1 pistol magazine along with 4 numbers of 7.65 mm ammunition from the four-wheeler belonging to Prasanta Kalita
-    A four-wheeler belonging to Prasanta Kalita
-    One Steel Trunk

The investigation is ongoing.
