GUWAHATI: A former police officer has been apprehended by the Directorate Of Vigilance And Anti-Corruption on alleged bribery charges on November 22.
The individual identified as Bhagyeswar Hazarika, a former Sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Bokalia Police Station, Karbi Anglong, has been convicted by the Hon'ble Special Court under Section 7/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act).
The conviction follows an operation conducted by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in which Hazarika was apprehended while in the position of SI (UB) at Bokalia PS in allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant. The suspect has also been fined 8000/- as per reports.
DVAC took to X to put out, “Today Bhagyeswar Hazarika has been convicted by Hon’ble Special Court U/S 7/13(2) of PC Act. He was trapped by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while he was posted as SI(UB) at Bokalia PS,Karbi Anglong after accepting demanded bribe from the complainant.”
Bhagyeswar Hazarika has been sentenced to 4 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs. 8000/-.
