Former Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar Dies by Suicide

GUWAHATI: Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar, who also served as Nagaland Governor from March 2013 to June 2014, was found dead at his residence in Shimla on Wednesday evening in an apparent suicide.


The police have recovered a suicide note from Ashwani Kumar's residence.


The suicide note, allegedly written by him, says "I am going on my next journey after being fed up with life."


Kumar, 70, was an IPS officer of the 1973 batch. 


He had served at various high-ranking posts at Himachal Police, Central Bureau of Investigation as well as elite SPG. He was the director of the CBI between August 2008 and November 2010. Ashwani Kumar is the first CM chief to later become a governor. 


During his term at the CBI, he had dealt with the high profile Arushi-Hemraj murder case. Ashwani Kumar was CBI director when the agency had arrested Amit Shah in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case in Gujarat.


He had also served as the Director-General of Police of Himachal Pradesh.
