Former MP and Veteran Dance Scholar Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan Passes Away

Veteran dance scholar and former Member of Parliament Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan passed away aged 92.


She died at New Delhi on 16th September reportedly due to old age complications.


She was a leading scholar of Indian classical dance, art, architecture, and art history. 


Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan, apart from serving as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Education, was also the founding Director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. 


She was also the former President of India International Centre (IIC) and the Chairperson of the IIC International Research Division. 


Dr. Vatsyayan was highly trained in Kathak and Manipuri classical dance forms apart from Bharatanatyam and Odissi.
