GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Aminul Haque Laskar, the former Deputy Speaker and prominent BJP leader has made serious allegations against Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, the MLA from the Sonai constituency and General Secretary of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Laskar claims that Barbhuiya is involved in several forgery cases, including misrepresenting his educational qualifications, as per media reports.
According to media reports, Aminul Haque Laskar, representing the BJP and known as the party's minority face, filed a case against Karim Uddin Barbhuiya in May 2021, after the assembly elections. Laskar has now accused Barbhuiya of falsifying documents related to his educational qualifications.
The matter is scheduled to be heard in the Guwahati High Court on May 15, where Barbhuiya has been asked to appear and provide a written explanation. Subsequently, the case will proceed to the Supreme Court on May 16.
During a press conference held on Saturday evening, Aminul Haque Laskar presented alleged evidence of forgery committed by Karim Uddin Barbhuiya regarding his educational qualifications, stated media reports.
Laskar accused Barbhuiya of not only submitting false certificates to prove his educational background but also committing a cybercrime by associating himself with prestigious alumni of Chaudhury Charan Singh University, Meerut.
The university, in response to an RTI inquiry, has stated that no student named Karim Uddin Barbhuiya has ever been enrolled in their institution, as per media reports.
According to records, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya passed his HSLC examination in 1984 from a school where he secured a third division.
However, after a span of 35 years, he obtained a provisional certificate, which Aminul Haque Laskar claims to be fake.
Laskar further revealed that Barbhuiya had presented a fake certificate claiming to be a graduate of GC College. However, when questioned via RTI, GC College denied Barbhuiya's enrollment as a student, as stated by media reports.
Additionally, Barbhuiya produced a diploma in engineering from a nonexistent institution called "The Engineering Institute of Engineers," which raised suspicions.
Laskar alleged that Barbhuiya fraudulently obtained an engineering diploma certificate for a Congress candidate in 2016, believing his opponent would be the Congress candidate and not BJP's Aminul Haque Laskar.
When the contest shifted to Laskar in 2021, Barbhuiya allegedly falsified documents to obtain a graduate certificate from Chaudhury Charan Singh University, Meerut, stated media reports.
Aminul Haque Laskar also accused prominent Assam Pradesh Congress Committee leaders, including Bhupen Bora, Debabrata Saikia, and Rockibul Hussain, of extending support to Karim Uddin Barbhuiya by involving Congress panel lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi to fight his case, despite their denial of any connection with the AIUDF, as stated by media reports.
