Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi Takes Oath as RS Member Amidst Uproar

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi took oath as Rajya Sabha member on Thursday, March 19.

He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Ramnath Kovind. There was an uproar in the house when Gogoi took oath and opposition members staged a walkout.

The former CJI delivered landmark judgement like Ayodhya and was the architect of NRC in Assam. Justice Gogoi, the first person from northeast who was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, had retired on November 17, 2019.
