GUWAHATI: Assam Minister Haji Abdur Rauf Chaudhury and his wife were arrested by Hojai police on Thursday for assaulting a minor girl with a stick.
A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, showing Farhana, the ex-minister's wife, beating the young girl while Haji Abdur Rauf Chaudhury watched from a sofa.
While talking to G Plus, child rights activist Miguel Das revealed that the ex-minister and his wife had employed the girl illegally for child labour.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hojai also confirmed to G Plus that the police have detained the accused for questioning. The minor girl has been rescued, and an investigation is underway to uncover more details about the incident.
