Five Seats To Be Reserved In Assam Medical Colleges For Bhutanese Students

GUWAHATI: During the weekly cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, the Assam government approved the reservation of five seats in the state’s medical colleges for Bhutanese students.

The weekly cabinet meeting was held today at the newly inaugurated Lok Sewa Bhawan in Assam Secretariat.

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah further announced that the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is scheduled to visit Assam for two days on November 3.

Minister Mallabaruah remarked, "The Bhutanese King will be visiting our state on November 3-4, and we have taken all necessary steps to extend a warm welcome to the monarch. We anticipate that this visit will further strengthen our relations with our neighbouring country, with which we share a border."

He went on to mention that a total of five seats in the state's medical colleges will be set aside for Bhutanese nationals. Specifically, two seats will be allocated in Nalbari Medical College, one in FAAMC, Barpeta, and two seats in a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) college.
