FIR Filed In Assam’s Bokakhat Over Alleged Dog Killing For Consumption

 

GUWAHATI: A complaint has been filed at the Bokakhat police station over a case of alleged dog killing with the intent to consume.

The First Information Report (FIR) filed on March 25, 2025, at 11:00 PM was registered at Bokakhat Police Station in Assam's Golaghat district, involving alleged violations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The case includes charges under Section 325 and Section 304(2) of the BNS, 2023, along with Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

According to the report, the incident took place on the same day between 10:00 PM and 10:20 PM in Mohmiki Gaon, Bokakhat, Golaghat, located approximately 3 km south of the police station, where two pet dogs were killed and cooked with the intent to consume, as the authorities then intervened. The FIR was filed based on information received at 10:30 PM.

The complainant, identified as Mohimatus Gogoi, a resident of Da-Gaon, Bokakhat, provided details leading to the FIR. She said, “The man killed the dog because it scratched him. He had no reason to hurt the other one, but he killed both of them."

The accused, named as Prasanta Rajkhowa, is reportedly from Mohmiki Gaon, Bokakhat, Golaghat, Assam.

Authorities are investigating the matter further. More details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
