Financial Aid Provided to over 2.5 Lakh Stranded Persons by Assam Govt

GUWAHATI: Under the Assam Cares initiative, a total of 2,55,500 stranded persons in other parts of the country have been provided with financial aid.

More than 6 lakh people filled forms to apply for the aid of Rs 2000, stated Himanta Biswa Sarma, finance and health minister of Assam.

He added that a total of over 20 lakh people from Assam are estimated to be outside the state, calculating all family members.

The government of Assam has issued helpline numbers for people stranded outside who wish to return to the state. 

People in other states of the country who wish to return to Assam may contact the government by giving a missed call on helpline number 7428159966. A link will be sent within 48 hours asking for details.

For the people who had already called on 9615471547 need not give missed call on the newly provided number as they are already registered and will get the new link automatically.

Further, people stranded outside the state who wish to return by their own vehicles or can arrange for transportation can mail at assamtransportrelief@gmail.com to register themselves.

A few people have already registered themselves through this mail ID and have managed to reach Assam.

"We might take time to bring the stranded persons back as we will need train services. But we urge them to inform us if they need assistance in coming back to their hometown," stated Sarma.

Further, people who don't wish to return, will be provided monetary help of Rs 2000 on the 15th of every month. 

This may continue for two to three months, until normalcy returns.
