Fake UK Cardiologist Accused Of Killing Several Patients In Madhya Pradesh Hospital, NHRC To Begin Probe

GUWAHATI: A man posing as a UK-based cardiologist allegedly carried out fatal surgeries at a missionary hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, leading to at least seven deaths. The case has sparked public anger and prompted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to launch an official investigation.

The suspect, identified as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, is believed to have used the name “Dr N John Kem” while performing high-risk heart surgeries at the hospital. Officials say he had no medical degree or licence to practise but was still hired by the hospital without proper verification.

Concerns were first raised when families of some patients questioned the doctor’s credentials. Several of them sought second opinions at a hospital in Jabalpur, where it was confirmed that the cardiologist was a fraud.

Deepak Tiwari, president of the local Child Welfare Committee, took up the matter after receiving complaints. Authorities have also confirmed that Yadav is facing a criminal case in Hyderabad.

The NHRC has taken serious note of the issue. Member Priyank Kanoongo posted on X: “The investigation team of the National Human Rights Commission, constituted on my orders to investigate the matter, will camp in Damoh from 7 April to 9 April and investigate. If any victim or any other person wants to provide information related to the case, they can meet the investigation team in Damoh. The investigation team will investigate the institutions and persons mentioned in the complaint, including administrative officers.”

As the probe gets underway, serious questions are being raised about the hospital’s hiring practices and the absence of safeguards to prevent such a breach in medical protocol.
