Following the hike, the price for PMUY beneficiaries will rise from ₹500 to ₹550 per cylinder, while non-subsidised consumers will now have to pay ₹853, up from ₹803. The minister further stated that LPG pricing in India is subject to periodic review every two to three weeks, depending on various economic factors.
Puri further clarified that the recent excise duty adjustments on petrol and diesel are not intended to impose additional burden on consumers. He said that the move aims to compensate for an estimated ₹43,000 crore loss incurred by oil marketing companies due to subsidised LPG distribution.
Earlier, on April 1, oil marketing companies had reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹41 across major cities. Following the revision, the commercial LPG cylinder is priced at ₹1,762 in Delhi, ₹1,872 in Kolkata, ₹1,714.50 in Mumbai, and ₹1,924.50 in Chennai.
While commercial rates were cut, domestic LPG prices had remained unchanged until this latest revision.
