Fake News: No Assam Bandh called by AASU

WhatsApp forwards may now become the next big menace to tackle. After a series of events in the past 24 hours involving the brutal murder of two Guwahati youths in Karbi Anglong, which stemmed originally due to the circulation of fake news on Social Media and messaging apps, another fake news is making its rounds on Social Media calling for an Assam Bandh on June 11, 2018 (Monday).

This image is being heavily shared on Social Media with the AASU logo calling for an Assam Bandh in lieu of the brutal murder of Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath in Karbi Anglong demanding justice.

However, in a Facebook post, AASU members have clarified that this news is fake and people should not share this. Loosely translated, the message said:

All Assam Students’ Union has not called for any bandh. It is a hoax by miscreants. We request everyone to not believe such hoaxes

In the meantime, Assam Police has also issued a message to the public to stop circulation of fake news and hate messages. The Assam Police has shared the phone numbers of the Police Control Room, Special Branch Control Room and a WhatsApp number to report grievances and cases where people can report hate messages.
