Fake Deposit Collector Flees After Defrauding Many In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A scam has been uncovered in Guwahati, involving a con man named Ratan Roy who has disappeared after allegedly stealing a large sum of money from locals.

Roy, posing as a representative of The Union Co-operative Bank Ltd., collected daily deposits from over 100 small business owners, primarily those operating betel leaf and fruit stalls. These unsuspecting individuals, believing they were saving with a legitimate bank, entrusted Roy with various amounts.

However, when the victims attempted to withdraw their savings, they were shocked to learn that Roy was not a bank employee and that their daily deposits were not associated with any bank benefits. Roy has since vanished, switching off his phone and disappearing without a trace.

This has left the victims, many of whom rely on these small savings, deeply concerned.

Eighteen individuals have already filed police reports at the Geetanagar station, accusing Roy of defrauding them. The authorities are currently investigating the matter and urging anyone with information about Roy's whereabouts to come forward.
