FACT CHECK: No Patient Died of COVID19 at GMCH

GUWAHATI: Amidst ongoing coronavirus crisis in the state of Assam, rumours are in the air and as well as local print media that three patients have died in the isolation ward of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Reportedly, in Assam three people died at the GMCH isolation ward and all three were tested negative for COVID-19. The report was circulated as from "PIB in Assam- Northeast Digital Group."

However rubbishing as such reports, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to this Twitter handle and wrote, "NO #Covid_19 PATIENT HAS DIED in Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), as reported in a local daily newspaper. 

I request that in these trying times when tensions are running high, media should refrain from reporting, without doubly verifying facts."

It is to be mentioned that till now 29 positive cases have been identified in the state of Assam and of which one patient from the Hailakandi District passed away who had travel history rooted back to Nizamuddin in Old Delhi.
