FACT CHECK: No Lock-Down Order Given by Assam Govt

GUWAHATI: Amidst Coronavirus scare, certain social media groups are spreading fake news of a probable lock-down in the state of Assam, however CMO Assam's Twitter handle dismissed all allegations.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on his official Twitter handle posted, "We have noticed that this WhatsApp message is being circulated, which is completely baseless. We will let everyone know if the Govt takes any such decisions. Request everyone not to panic in our fight against #COVID19outbreak."

However, in order to contain the spread of #COVID19, Government of Assam has decided to prohibit movement of all Inter-State passenger vehicles up to 31 March, 2020.

All goods carrying vehicles, personal vehicles, vehicles on government duty and those used for emergency services are exempted.

Meanwhile, Assam State Health Minister Himnata Biswa Saram is said to set up a press conference at 5 PM which will focus primarily of social distancing. 

Speaking to media the Minister said, "I along with the CM will have a discussion at 3 PM post which I will give directive measures at 5 PM presser meet."
