GUWAHATI: LGBI Airport parking has been in controversy for the inconsistent and unstructured parking model.

Citizen’s from around the city and also visitor’s going to drop off passengers have been asked to shell out disproportionate amount of parking fees just for entering the airport premises.

Interestingly the parking contract is in the name of one Bholanath Shukla from Maharashtra. A five minute time frame has been set up and one has to shell out the fee even if one does not park the vehicle.

There have been numerous complaints from citizens for this meaningless extortion.

Due to traffic congestion and slow moving vehicles busy with drop off and pick up, it becomes impossible to rush out of the premises in five minutes. Basically it is like a fish trap where you get inside but can't leave without paying for the nuisance.

Rate card as per vehicle for five minutes:
Car: Rs. 60
Mini bus: Rs. 70
Tempo: Rs. 70
Two wheeler: Rs.15

This blatant misuse of contract has led to a number of distasteful instances where the vehicle drivers get into a quarrel with the parking gate attendants. There are allegations that hapless drivers are threatened by the parking attendants whose behaviour is rowdy and dominating.

If this is the welcome one receives at the LGBI Airport, Guwahati, the first impression itself is disappointing and portrays a negative image of Advantage Assam.

Earlier a Gauhati High Court advocate had filed an FIR at the Azara Police Station. In another instance, one of the victims of this LGBI parking abuse Vinod Kumar, a resident of Lachit Nagar has filed an FIR at the Azara Police Station.
